Centralia Missouri Real Estate: Small Community Between Kansas City and St. Louis

Centralia, in Boone County, is a small community midway between Kansas City and St. Louis. It is served by State Highways 22, 124 and 151, about 22 miles north of I-70 and Columbia, the county seat.

Boone County was named after the famous frontiersman Daniel Boone. It is one of 114 counties in Missouri, and was organized in 1820 from a portion of the territorial Howard County. The area was known as Boone's Lick Country, because of the location of a salt lick that was utilized by the sons of Daniel Boone.

Once the site of a coal strip-mining operation, the man-made landscape of Finger Lakes State Park has been made into a recreational area with many amusement options.
